How to take a Screenshot (Windows and MAC)

A SCREENSHOT is a picture capture of the screen you want to take a picture of. Follow this tutorial to learn how to make a screenshot.


This tutorial will teach you how to take a screenshot on a Windows PC or laptop, and a MAC PC or laptop.
For Windows users, please refer to posts 1 and 2.
For MAC users, please refer to post 3.

Windows
Follow these steps if you are using a PC or laptop operating Windows.

Step 1.
First, make sure you have what you want to screenshot up on your screen so that you are viewing it in the active window.
For example, I want to take a screenshot of my diva, so I am viewing my profile as follows:

Step 2.
Next, you need to find the 'Print Screen' button on your keyboard. It is usually located in the top right hand corner of your keyboard near the Num and Scroll lock keys.
Different keyboards, will have different print screen buttons. Your print screen button will look like one of these below:

Once you have found your Print Screen button, and you are viewing what you want to screenshot on screen, press the print screen button.

If you have a Print Screen button that looks the same as Print Screen button number 4 in the image above, then you will need to find your 'fn' function button on your keyboard.
It is usually located near your space bar, either to the left or right of it, and looks like the 'fn' key in the above image.
You need to hold this key down whilst pressing your print screen button to take a screenshot.

Step 3.
Once you have pressed your Print Screen button, open up Paint on your PC or laptop.
To do this click on:
Start > Accessories > Paint.
(Your start button and menu may look a little different on your PC or laptop)

Step 4.
When you have opened up your Paint program, click on the 'Edit' menu at the top, and click on 'Paste'.
Or you can hold down your 'ctrl' + 'v' keys to paste.

Your screenshot should then be pasted into Paint like below:

You only need to follow Steps 5 and 6 if you wish to crop your screenshot.

Step 5.
I want the screenshot to be of my diva only, so I need to use the selection tool on Paint to crop my diva out of the screenshot. The selection tool looks like this:

Click on the selection tool, and using your left click on your mouse, drag a rectangular box around your diva (or whatever you wish to select).
It should look like this, with the checkered lines around your selection:

Step 6.
Once you have the area you wish to crop out selected using the selection tool, click on the 'Edit' menu and then onto 'Copy'.
Or hold down your 'ctrl' + 'c' keys to copy.

Once you have copied your selection, click on the 'File' menu and then onto 'New'.

Then click on the 'Edit' menu, and then 'paste'.
Or hold down your 'ctrl' + 'v' keys.

Your selection would have then pasted into the new document like below:

To get rid of the white excess space on the right hand side, just click on the white space and you will see dots around the whole image, which allows you to resize the image, just drag and resize until you are happy.

Step 7.
Now all you have to do is save your screenshot and it is ready for upload.
Click on the 'File' menu, and then onto 'Save' to save your screenshot.

Step 8.
To upload your screenshot, use one of the following image upload websites.

www.imageshack.us
www.photobucket.com

Please note: Photobucket requires registration.

Follow the instructions on the site to upload your image.
Once uploaded, they will provide you with a 'direct link'. This is the direct link to your image.
Copy and paste the link by right clicking and clicking on 'Copy' and then 'paste' to wherever you would like to paste your screenshot.

And you are done!

MAC
Follow these steps if you are using a PC or laptop operating MAC.

Step 1.
First, make sure you have what you want to screenshot up on your screen so that you are viewing it in the active window.
For example, I want to take a screenshot of my diva, so I am viewing my profile as follows:

Step 2.
You need to locate your 'command' and 'shift' keys. They are labelled below in this image:

Step 3.
You need to hold down your 'command' key and your 'shift' key at the same time, and then press your number 4 key.

An icon should pop up that looks like a target site. Use your mouse or laptop touchpad to drag and click what you would like to take a screenshot of.


Step 4.
Moving the target site will draw a box around the screen, highlighting in a light gray the portion that will be in the screenshot. Once you highlight your selected part, release the keys. The computer should make a noise similar to that of taking a photograph.


Step 5.
To access your screenshot, look on your desktop. The screenshot should be saved as Picture 1 (ensuing shots will be numbered as well).

Then you are done!
