BC - Song of the Day

Posted Today at 11:09 AM by bob ((bo)blog)

What to do on a summer's day that is not quite as summery as one would wish?
When skies are grey, when rain is pouring and thunder rolling?
I say, close your eyes and let Nina Simone bring you the sun.
And I say, it's all right.

Perhaps I can blame it on my age. Perhaps (more likely) it's just plain laziness. No matter what the reasons may be, the fact stands clear (and boring): I rarely discover new music anymore. I keep listening to the same people I have been listening to for the past 5-10 years. Luckily, though, there are exceptions. Over the last few days, I'm glad to say, my ears have fallen in love not only once, but twice.

This past weekend, I went to see Steve Earle & The Dukes (& Duchesses)....

Isn't it nice when two (or) more musicians you admire decide to combine their greatness and work together? Today, I will share some of my favourite musical collaborations with you. (If you would like to share yours with me, feel free to do so!)

Let's begin with a recent example. Tift Merritt is an excellent singer-songwriter, mainly hanging out somewhere under the country/americana umbrella. Last year, she released the album Traveling Alone (warmly recommended, by the way) where she...

Long time no blog, but since the new Blog Challenge theme is Melomaniacs, I simply couldn't resist giving this a try.

So. Melomaniacs. I've met a few of those in my days. I am one, I dare say. But surely, some of the finest ones can be found among musicians themselves. Some musicians love music so much, they even write music about it. There are plenty of song lyrics out there about, or refering to, other musicians or songs. I thought I'd share some of my favourite examples. Dear blog...

Celebrating a Heroine

Posted 12-30-2011 at 06:32 PM by bob ((bo)blog)

Patti Smith, my highly adored Patti Smith, turns 65 today.

This is not the first time I mention her in this blog, and I'm sure it won't be the last -
even though words fail me when it comes to describing what her voice and her music means to me.

So, I will let her speak. Enjoy the videos.
