How can I get over this guy!?

Okay, so me and this guy, we dated for a year. Which is a long time for a teenager! Alright..
So I really did fall in love with him. As he did with me.
He always cheated on me. I always took him back. (Like an idiot. But love can be stupid.)
And everytime I took him back he promised never to hurt me again.
Eventually, he left me for another girl. Which I should have seen coming. But when it happened I cried for weeks and weeks. I still cry, and we have been over for a couple months now.
I know what some of you might say, "If he does that stuff to you, he doesn't REALLY love you." Or "How could you love a guy like that?"
But the thing is...he DID really love me, he's just an idiotic teenage guy. And I can love him because besides the cheating and stupidness, he was really sweet to me.
He only cheated on me 3 times during that year. But really, it never should have happened once.
How can I get a backbone? How do I get the nerve to leave a guy the second he does something like that?
I swear, I am not a desperate girl who will date anyone. I actually hardly date at all.
Someone tell me how to get over him.
